Context of the problem.
Euro Caps needed a coffee break with BIT Hotmelt Technology to discuss challenges in their production process. As one of the world’s largest producers of private label coffee capsules, Euro Caps manufactures over a billion capsules per year, making an optimized production process absolutely essential.
However, their production process was disrupted by issues with the Hotmelt installations. These problems led to machine downtime, product waste, and improperly sealed packaging, directly impacting the efficiency and quality of their coffee capsules.

Inconsistent adhesive application
Variations in the amount of applied Hotmelt adhesive resulted in inconsistent packaging, leading to leaks or improperly sealed packages.
Clogging of adhesive heads and nozzles
Frequent blockages caused machine downtime and disruptions in the production process.
Poor adhesive head adjustments
Incorrectly adjusted adhesive heads resulted in inaccurate placement of Hotmelt adhesive on the packaging.

The Hotmelt adhesive used was not optimal for the production process, resulting in poor adhesion and contamination of the machines.

To improve the production process, BIT Hotmelt Technology, in collaboration with Euro Caps, has implemented the following solutions:
1. Selection of a new Hotmelt Adhesive
A new Hotmelt adhesive was selected to improve adhesion, ensuring better-sealed packaging. This adhesive operates at a lower temperature, reducing machine contamination and enhancing overall efficiency.
2. Equipment modifications
Brackets were adjusted to ensure more precise packaging closure. Additionally, one type of nozzle is used, resulting in equal adhesive application.
3. Implementation of preventive maintenance
Regular machine maintenance was introduced to minimize nozzle blockages, ultimately leading to more consistent adhesive output and reducing production interruptions.
4. Hotmelt equipment training for technical staff
The technical team learns the basic knowledge of Hotmelt equipment, enabling them to reduce machine downtime and minimize the risk of operational issues or accidents.
